OFDR Software Update – Version 2.0

January 2026

Here’s the long-awaited upgrade to our beloved OFDR software. Our OFDR tech lead and the now expanded software team got unleashed with the necessary focus and (positive) rage to release what they had in mind for quite some time.

While the first software version was already a big product differentiator for our optical frequency-domain reflectometer, we consider this new version a major step up and an important contributor to our fast-paced development roadmap for optical backscattering reflectometry.

 

Significant improvement in stability

  • Not only did we collect feedback from our installed base and constant demo activities, but the software team cleaned and reworked the code and thoroughly tested the new features to maximize uptime.

New algorithms and code improvements

IL and RL analysis, and peak integration
  • Easy on-screen (and remote) analyses with improved integration-based calculations.
Increased dynamic range (x2) in spectral mode
  • Drastic code rework to reach maximum dynamic range (60 dB) on spectral analysis.
Averaging
  • Phase complexes are calculated independently for both polarizations and allow for a true averaging calculation, smoothing measurements while preserving the Rayleigh backscattering level.
Access to “raw data”
  • Complex data can now be saved with your OFDR measurement for custom analyses in your preferred tools.

New laser control menu

  • The tunable laser source output can now be controlled for tests and measurements beyond the OFDR scope, extending the versatility of your unit to the benefit of the entire lab.

Faster remote control, with standard SCPI commands

  • More direct and efficient communication with the software.
  • SCPI commands fully aligned with standards, with a new Python driver.

Support tools

  • Autonomous updates from installer packages.
  • Easy extraction of support data.

  • Better management of peaks, markers and lines.
  • More refractive indices can be loaded.
  • Improved “delta” tool.
  • Optimization of menus.
  • Improved on-screen keyboard.
